January 20,
2003 - SYBLON REID, General Engineering Contractors, recently reached
the much anticipated mid-project point of the Commons Beach Lake
Access & Enhancement project, located in Tahoe City, CA. To
date, Syblon Reid has completed the shoreline improvements, utility
improvements, State Route 28 retaining wall and new sidewalk with
radiant heat, new restroom construction, and the placement of the
"Big Tree" sculpture carved from the historic 170-year
old pine tree that was once a gathering spot in the center of town.
In 1994 disease and drought took over the tree and local artists
competed for the right to carve a 30 foot section of the trunk seen
in the photo at left.
After completion,
the beach enhancement project will broaden public access from the
highway with multi terraced vistas on the west and east ends, and
broaden public convenience with pathway lighting, a new small informal
amphitheater, ADA access from the new parking lot, new playgrounds
and landscaping to name just a few of the enhancements.
Syblon Reid,
Tahoe City Public Utility District (TCPUD), and their construction
team members have successfully collaborated throughout this first
phase of the project to maximize public convenience and minimize
the construction duration. Construction of this project will restart
in the spring of 2003 as weather permits.
Syblon
Reid, General Engineering Contractors, formed in 1955 by John Reid
and Ray Syblon, has emphasized quality work at competitive prices
on difficult and/or unique construction projects. Throughout the
years Syblon Reid has grown steadily to meet the expanding engineering
construction needs of northern California and Nevada. Today, Syblon
Reid provides design-build engineering construction services for
land, water, utilities and heavy infrastructure projects.
