Orange Grove Wet Utilities Rehabilitation

Syblon Reid was awarded a contract to replace an aging domestic water system as part of an ongoing effort to rehabilitate water and sewer pipelines in the Orange Grove Area of the Historic District in Folsom, California.

The water related work consisted of replacing over 3,200 linear feet (lf) of 8 inch diameter water infrastructure and related appurtences to provide capacity for fire flow.

The sewer related work consisted of replacing 2,500 lf of 6-inch and 8-inch diameter sewer lines to mitigate the potential for overflows and increase repetitive maintenance to sustain the pipes that are well beyond their serviceable life. The work also involved a multitude of replacements/repairs to existing individual sewer lines along the project route.

During the rehabilitation of the water and sewer pipelines, a majority of the existing service connections were found to be installed in the backyards, requiring rerouting to the front and resulted in modifications under and around most residences. This project was constructed in residential roadways during the winter months requiring extensive traffic control and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) implementation.

Although not necessarily a large project, it demonstrates Syblon Reid's willingness to take on difficult projects. Not only were there countless unidentified underground utilities, the work had to be performed in such a way that no customer was without water service for longer than 4 hours.
