Location: Alpine County, CA

This project consisted of replacing the outlet gates and trash rack for the Caples Lake Dam. A routine inspection of the main dam outlet works revealed the need for emergency repairs. Scope of work included dewatering a portion of the reservoir and installation of a bladder dam to accommodate replacement of the reservoir outlet gates and trash rack.

Unique challenges on the project included placing bypass pumping from the reservoir to the creek downstream from the dam to protect the environment and fish downstream. Working at 8000’ in fall and winter weather presented further challenges for work crews and scheduling.
