Location: Truckee, CA
Start Date: May 2007
Project consisted of earthwork, grading and
underground utilities on a 75 acre site of the new Sierra College Campus.
Scope of work included 9250 LF of underground joint utility trench which
required drilling and blasting of rock, site grading for campus buildings,
construction of roads and bike trails, as well as stabilization and protection
of slopes. Roads built by Syblon Reid required 6250 tons of asphalt and
over a mile of concrete sidewalks and gutters.
Project challenges included off-hauling 58,560
cubic yards of material from May 1, 2007 to Memorial Day. The proximity
of the job site to Highway's 80 and 89 required this critical milestone
be reached before the start of tourist season. The short work season required
an accelerated work schedule with full resource allocation. The potential
for environmental impact required attention to mitigation measures for
the protection of the native environment.
With over 25,000 worker hours, this project finished with zero worker injuries - an outstanding safety achievement by all project personnel.
