The Auburn Municipal Airport accommodates approximately 250,000 flights per year. With so many inbound and outbound flights the airport required the rehabilitation and expansion of its runways and taxi ways, in addition to the upgrading of the existing lighting.

The scope of this project included removal of pavement, blasting, and excavation of 250,000 cubic yards from three borrow areas, constructing a new apron area, and installing new tie-downs.

Fills were placed in the runway and taxiway extensions, finish grading work, placing base rock and paving were performed.

Conduit and lights were also installed throughout the entire runway and the runway was extended to the east, to the west and widened to meet Federal Aviation Administration's width standard.

Technical elements of this project included:

 
  • Blasting and excavation of 250,000 cubic yards from three burrow areas
  • Placing fills in existing runway and taxiway extensions
  • Demolition and removal of existing pavement
  • Placement of base rock and new paving
  • 30,000 lineal feet of conduit lights along runway
  • Expansion of runways 400 lineal feet to the east and 200 lineal feet the west
  • 15 feet of widening throughout entire runway
