Client: City of Folsom
Start Date: March 2007
In order to construct the new bridge across
the American River the existing American River Education Center, which
consists of several buildings containing educational exhibits and an amphitheater,
was required to be moved to a new site nearby across the Dam Road in Folsom.
Project scope included grading and debris removal of the new site, trenching
and installation of new utilities, rerouting a portion of the bike trail
and building an access road, forming and pouring new concrete pads for
the buildings that were to be moved, and installation of drought-resistant
landscaping.

There are several challenges that make this
project unique. Construction was completed next to the existing bike trail
which was required to stay open at all times. The movement of the existing
buildings to the new site required the buildings to be jacked up and placed
on an I-beam truck, moved to the new site, then placed back down on their
new structures. Some of these buildings contained exhibits of historical
value, and all buildings and exhibits were transported safely to the new
site.
