For the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
the Kings River turbine bypass project was an important element
in the overall Kings River effort to improve fishery habitat. Equally
important, the turbine bypass aspect of this project permits the
release of water through penstocks at times when the power
plant is not running to better manage temperatures in the river
fishery below the dam.
To complete this essential project for
the U.S Army Corps of Engineers and the Kings River Conservancy
District, Syblon Reid performed the civil works construction consisting
of 2,500 cubic yards of excavation, major concrete demolition, 11 and
13 foot diameter bores through the
concrete spray wall, and pouring 1,200 cubic yards of concrete
for the bypass lines and valve foundations.
