Susanville HDSP Water Treatment
Syblon Reid was contracted by the California Department of Corrections to install an arsenic removal system for the existing water supply to the High Desert and CCC Correctional Facility. The components of this project included approximately 15,000 feet of collection and distribution pipeline, connection of 7 existing wells in to the collection system, providing a state of the art arsenic filter system. The arsenic filter system included carbon dioxide, sodium hydroxide and sodium hypochlorite chemical feed systems, incorporation of the five existing storage tanks and booster pump station as well as major electrical upgrades and integration with the existing SCADA system. The work was performed within the security restraints of the California Department of Corrections. There were many unique challenges of this project. Night work consisted of coordinating the minimum and maximum security protocols and overall communications with a large contingency of stakeholders including the design team, owners, suppliers, and other government agencies. Due to the project being performed on prison grounds and the work requiring taking the existing wells off line, night work was performed to minimize day use impacts to the existing water system. Special measures were implemented to secure the work areas, construction crews, and tools. Due to the remoteness of the site in Northern California, additional challenges needed to be addressed for material procurement and scheduling of deliveries.
