Syblon Reid Construction
Providing Solutions to difficult Projects

Pine Flat Dam Turbine Bypass

For the Corps of Engineers, the Kings River Turbine Bypass Project was an important element in the overall Kings River effort to improve fishery habitat.  The turbine bypass aspect of this project permits the release of water to occur through the penstocks at times when the power plant is not running to better manage temperatures in the river fishery below the dam.

To complete this essential project, Syblon Reid provided the civil works construction consisting of 2,500 cubic yards excavation, major concrete demolition, forming and pouring of 1,200 cubic yards of concrete for the bypass lines and valve foundations.  Eleven and thirteen foot diameter openings were bored through the dam concrete spray wall to provide water diversion to the river.  Various large piping and mechanical equipment were installed as well.
