Dutch Flat Canal Fyke Net Structure
In partnership with HDR/DTA Engineering, Syblon Reid fabricated and installed a Fyke net fish screen collection structure in Nevada Irrigation District's (NID) Dutch Flat Canal. This installation is in support of NID's relicensing effort for their hydro electric facilities adjacent to the Bear River in Placer County, California with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
After pre-fabrication of the a steel structure which included 4 walkways and 6 hoists, a 2 day outage on the canal was obtained to set/ anchor the structure, install the fyke nets, do performance testing prior to full release of the canal back to operations. Due to lack of access, the installation was done by travelling personnel, materials and equipment down the dewatered canal approximately ¼ mile. Since access was in one direction only and the canal width is limited to 14 feet, work had to be staged and sequenced carefully to perform the work during the short shut down period.
